Registration and Fees

EARLY REGISTRATION

$50 base registration

+$15 for each additional individual event

+$60 for each Kata or Kumite team

If you'd like a greater challenge you may join a kumite or kata division that is one age group older or one experience group higher than yours.

SPECTATOR FEE

$10 per person / $25 for a family

Seniors and Children under 6 are free

Please bring cash.

Before you register on Smoothcomp, be sure to get your AAU Membership number, and have a profile picture handy.​

Individual Events

KIHON (BASICS)

Only for Beginners ages 4-11; Boys and girls will be combined. This event involves performing basic techniques (stepping forward jodan punch 4 times, stepping back rising block 4 times). This is a great event to showcase your karate basics, power, and spirit! If your athlete cannot yet perform a kata on their own, this is the suggested event for them.

KATA
Most students compete in this event. It is an opportunity to display the student's kata(s) that they work hard on in the dojo. This is a great event for youth and adults, at all levels!

KUMITE
Recommended for students who have had experience in free sparring in the dojo. If you are unsure about participating, please speak to their instructor(s) before registering. Required gear for kumite includes: mouthguard, fist guards, helmet (ages 17 and under; can be purchased or we will have some to borrow at the tournament), cup (for males).

ADAPTIVE KATA

The Adaptive Kata event provides a kata competition opportunity for students with physical, cognitive, and special learning needs. Open to all ages and ranks.

ADAPTIVE KIHON

The Adaptive Kihon event provide a "basics" competition opportunity for students with physical, cognitive, and special learning needs. Open to all ages and ranks.

Team Events

TEAM KATA

Teams must consist of exactly three competitors. Only the team captain should register and pay.  All competitors should have a current AAU membership. We will assume that you have the other 2 athletes required for the event. The other teammates should share the cost by paying that captain $20 each. Divisions can be mixed genders and mixed ranks and will be set according to these age ranges:

-- 12 and under

-- 13-17

-- 18-34

-- 35 and up

FAMILY TEAM KATA

Teams may consist of 2 to 4 athletes. Only the team captain should register and pay. All competitors should have a current AAU membership. Divisions can be mixed genders and ages and will be set according to rank as follows.

-- All athletes are beginner or novice

-- 1 or 2 of the athletes on the team are intermediate or advanced (1 athlete must be be beginner or novice)

-- All athletes are intermediate or advanced

TEAM ROTATIONAL KUMITE

Rotational Team Kumite is an exciting, fast-paced event in which 3 competitors rotate in and out of the match when their coach calls for a change (6-minute running time). See the Rules Highlights for details about the Team Rotational Kumite event. Only the team captain should register and pay. All competitors should have a current AAU membership. Divisions will be separate for males and females, and set according to these age ranges. All ranks can be combined.
